Lithuania's largest solar park officially opens

The inauguration of Nordic Solar's solar park in Moletai, situated approximately an hour north of Vilnius, Lithuania's capital, saw the presence of key figures, including the Danish Ambassador to Lithuania, the country's Vice-Minister of Energy, the Vicemayor of the Moletai region, and prominent representatives from Lithuania's energy authorities. This solar park represents Nordic Solar's largest venture to date and stands as the largest solar installation ever constructed in Lithuania.

This milestone marks Nordic Solar's primary investment in Lithuania—a 100-MWp solar park in the Moletai region capable of supplying power equivalent to the annual consumption of approximately 28,000 European households. Additionally, this significant solar initiative aligns with Lithuania's ambitions for energy independence by 2050, underpinned by its strategic emphasis on enhancing renewable energy consumption in the years to come.

While renewable sources contributed 30% of Lithuania's total energy consumption in 2020, the nation aims to elevate this figure to 45% by 2030 and eventually reach 80% by 2050. The establishment of this expansive solar park underscores Lithuania's commitment to advancing its renewable energy agenda and achieving long-term sustainability goals.

Nordic’s largest project to date

Nikolaj Holtet Hoff, CEO of Nordic Solar, remarked that investing in Lithuania represented a significant milestone for the company, marking the completion of their largest project to date. He expressed pride in inaugurating the Moletai solar park, Lithuania's largest, alongside government representatives and the Danish ambassador. Hoff emphasized that the collaboration strengthened Lithuania's energy infrastructure and advanced renewable energy goals. Additionally, he noted that the solar park would contribute to the adoption of clean energy and support environmental objectives.

Not the only Nordic solar park in Lithuania

Nikolaj Holtet Hoff stated that the investment represented one of several by Nordic Solar in Lithuania. He mentioned that they had already commenced the construction phase for an 80 MWp plant and outlined plans for the construction of an even larger plant in 2026-27.

Deputy Minister of Energy Daiva Garbaliauskait? outlined Lithuania's ambitious energy objectives, emphasizing the nation's pursuit of full energy independence. She expressed satisfaction with the progress made, particularly with the inauguration of "Nordic Solar's" solar parks in Mol?tai, Šven?ionys, and Jonava. Garbaliauskait? noted that these projects would significantly increase the country's solar power capacity by 9%, benefiting over 200,000 households. Additionally, she highlighted the potential for collaboration between Danish and Lithuanian companies in advancing renewable energy initiatives.

Enhance biodiversity in the area

The Moletai solar park is poised to enhance biodiversity in its surroundings. Situated in a hilly terrain with abundant sunlight exposure, the park utilizes Nordic Solar's exclusive patented design featuring bifacial solar panels, capturing energy from both sides. Furthermore, various initiatives aimed at fostering biodiversity have been integrated into the park's development.

Already producing electricity

In April, the Mol?tai solar park was grid-connected through collaboration with Litgrid, the electricity transmission operator responsible for managing Lithuania's power grid under the Ministry of Energy. Additionally, Nordic Solar has entered into a balancing agreement with Enefit, a green energy solutions company within the Eesti Energia group, to procure 100 MW of electricity generated by the solar park.
