France designates more than 1 GW of winning projects in onshore wind power tenders

Agnès Pannier-Runacher, the French Minister for Energy Transition, announced the selection of 73 wind farm projects as part of a tender for onshore wind farms. In total, these 73 winning projects represent 1,156 MW, at an average price of 85.29 euros/MWh. It is estimated that the annual production of these projects, once completed, will be in the order of 2.6 TWh, equivalent to the consumption of about 500,000 households.

As reported by the French government, this tender was opened for an announced capacity of 925 MW. A total of 120 applications were received, for a total capacity of 1.8 GW. Faced with this strong demand, the French Ministry of Energy Transition decided to select 73 winning bids, using all the flexibilities offered by the tendering system to select as many projects as possible.

This volume of new projects will help achieve the objectives of developing onshore wind energy in France, which is essential both to combat global warming and to ensure the security of electricity supply. The next onshore wind power tendering period will open on 9 October this year, with a new capacity of 925 MW.

"With this tender, which supports an unprecedented level of renewable energy projects, we are demonstrating that our country is firmly committed to the energy transition. This is low-carbon and competitive energy for the French, serving our security of supply, our economic independence and our fight against climate change," said Agnès Pannier-Runacher.

This action is in line with France's objective to produce 40% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2030 and, more generally, to increase the share of renewable energies to 33% of final energy consumption by that date. The aim of this policy to develop renewable sources of electricity is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and increase the resilience of our electricity system.
