New transatlantic green hydrogen corridor to link Brazil and Germany

The Port of Rostock in Germany and the Port of Pecém in Brazil have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to develop a two-year transport corridor for green hydrogen, ammonia, and other clean fuels.

According to Hydrogen Europe, the agreement will support investments in the Pecém Industrial and Port Complex (CIPP) in Ceará — one of Brazil’s most advanced green hydrogen hubs — while consolidating Rostock as an import and distribution point for Eastern Europe.

Jochen Schulte, State Secretary of Germany, stated: “Pecém is becoming Brazil’s leading hydrogen hub. Rostock is one of the future green energy ports in Germany. Together we can ensure that the energy transition does not stop at borders but is conceived on an international scale.”

Meanwhile, Gernot Tesch, Managing Director of the Port of Rostock, added that this alliance “will allow Rostock to further consolidate its role as a major port for energy production and imports. At the same time, we gain access to one of the most promising locations for green energy worldwide.”
