COMAX France quadruples BESS portfolio with 57 MW/114 MWh across 10 sites

COMAX France, part of Swiss-based energy company MET Group, has completed a 57 MW/114 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) portfolio comprising ten sites connected to the distribution network across France.

The completion of the portfolio quadruples COMAX France’s operational BESS capacity in the country, bringing its total to more than 86 MW/143 MWh, according to MET Group.

Developed over the past three years, the portfolio was delivered by Entech, which acted as the overall contractor for the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) scope. The facilities use CATL Pods and SMA inverters.

According to MET Group, the projects were delivered on budget and ahead of schedule.

“We are proud of our COMAX team who worked safely and diligently with our EPC and technology partners to deliver this project on budget and ahead of schedule. With our continued investment in BESS and other flexibility solutions in France and across Europe, we reiterate our commitment to supporting Europe’s sustainable energy transition,” said Johannes Niemetz, CEO of MET Group’s Renewables and Asset Segment.

Supporting renewable integration and grid flexibility

All ten battery storage sites are now fully operational and are expected to provide additional flexibility to the French electricity system.

MET Group said the assets will support the further integration of renewable energy sources, provide grid flexibility services and contribute to greater price stability for end consumers in the French power market.

Battery storage is a key part of MET Group’s strategy to expand its portfolio of flexible energy assets across Europe. The company has been pursuing both the development and acquisition of BESS projects in several European markets.

MET Group previously acquired French battery storage operator and developer COMAX France as part of its strategy to strengthen its presence in the storage sector.

Beyond France, the group is developing and pursuing acquisitions of battery storage projects across Europe, including both stand-alone BESS facilities and hybrid projects in which battery systems are paired with renewable generation.

With the completion of the ten-site portfolio, COMAX France now operates more than 86 MW/143 MWh of battery storage capacity in France, significantly expanding MET Group’s footprint in the country’s growing energy storage market.
