EBRD backs Romania battery storage project with €44 million financing

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has approved up to €44 million in financing for a battery energy storage project in Romania.

The funding will support the development of a 127 MW / 254 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) being developed by R.Power and Eiffel Investment Group.

According to the EBRD, the project is expected to strengthen grid stability as Romania continues to expand its renewable energy capacity and pursue its energy transition goals.

The battery storage facility will also support the integration of renewable energy sources into the national electricity system and help reduce renewable energy curtailment, allowing a greater share of clean power generation to be utilized.

The financing comes as Romania seeks to modernize its power infrastructure and increase the flexibility of its electricity network to accommodate growing volumes of renewable energy generation.

Developed by R.Power and Eiffel Investment Group, the 127 MW / 254 MWh project represents another step in the deployment of large-scale energy storage capacity in the country, supporting both grid reliability and the integration of renewable energy resources.
