Plenitude unveils its largest battery storage facility in Texas

Plenitude, through its subsidiary Eni New Energy US, has completed the construction of the Guajillo plant, the company’s largest battery storage system to date. Located in Webb County, Southwest Texas, about 20 kilometers from Laredo, the 200MW facility is equipped with lithium-ion LFP batteries (lithium iron phosphate), which efficiently store electricity produced by nearby generation plants.

This stored energy will be made available when market demand peaks. The plant is strategically built next to Plenitude's “Corazon Solar Farm” to maximize operational synergies and strengthen the company's presence in the region, where it operates on approximately 800 hectares of land.

The Guajillo plant is set to become commercially operational by mid-2025 and will play a crucial role in stabilizing the local power grid. This contribution will enhance the efficiency of the region’s power system, which is undergoing significant growth in renewable energy generation.

“Large lithium-ion batteries are a rapidly expanding technology, enabling an increasing penetration of renewable energies into electrical systems. The completion of Guajillo places Plenitude at the forefront of this sector and further solidifies our presence in the U.S. renewable energy market, where we have reached 1.5 GW of installed capacity,” said Patrick Monino, Head of Plenitude Renewables North America and Managing Director of Eni New Energy US.
