Ørsted sells its majority stake in a Scottish offshore wind project to Odfjell Oceanwind
Odfjell Oceanwind (OOW) has completed the acquisition of Ørsted’s 80% stake in the Salamander offshore wind farm.
Salamander is a 100 MW floating offshore wind project in Scotland, located 35 kilometers from Peterhead. The project secured an Exclusive Lease Agreement for the seabed with Crown Estate Scotland during the INTOG leasing round and recently received Article 36 approval from the Scottish Government.
OOW will collaborate with the remaining shareholders of the Salamander Offshore Wind Farm, consisting of Simply Blue Group and Subsea7, to continue the project’s development and transform it into a commercial-scale floating offshore wind demonstration project. The new consortium has been well received by Crown Estate Scotland.
Per Lund, CEO of Odfjell Oceanwind (OOW), stated: “Innovation projects are essential to minimize the risk of relevant floating offshore wind technologies and the supply chain before embarking on larger-scale projects, such as those under ScotWind and many of the INTOG projects expected to be operational in the 2030s. OOW has closely monitored the UK market for several years and believes the country’s commitment to net zero, along with established frameworks including annual Contracts for Difference (CfD) rounds, provide favorable conditions for investors.”
Hugh Kelly, CEO and co-founder of Simply Blue Group, said: “We are pleased to welcome Odfjell Oceanwind (OOW) to the Salamander offshore wind farm. This collaboration strengthens and advances one of the country’s most important offshore wind projects, and together we support Scotland’s ambition to become a global leader in offshore wind, generating long-term benefits for communities, the economy, and the environment.”
Stuart Fitzgerald, CEO of Seaway7, the offshore wind division of the Subsea7 Group, added: “We are delighted to welcome Odfjell Oceanwind to the Salamander offshore wind farm. Alongside Simply Blue Group, we look forward to working closely to advance floating offshore wind technologies and support the development of the UK’s renewable energy capabilities.”
