Baltic Power becomes Poland’s first offshore wind farm to enter installation phase

Northland Power has announced the successful installation of the first turbine in the Baltic Power project—a 1.1 GW offshore wind farm currently being built in the Baltic Sea. Baltic Power, a joint venture between Northland Power and ORLEN Group, is set to become Poland’s first operational offshore wind farm. The inaugural Vestas V236 15 MW turbine, one of the largest in the world, was installed safely and successfully, marking a crucial construction milestone.

According to Northland Power, the full project will comprise 76 turbines that will produce enough clean electricity to power more than 1.5 million Polish homes—about 3% of the country’s electricity demand. Commercial operations are expected to begin in 2026.

Christine Healy, President and CEO of Northland Power, emphasized the importance of bringing Poland’s first offshore wind farm to life, stating that it represents a significant contribution to the country’s energy transition. Baltic Power is among the first European projects to install 15 MW turbines, featuring blades over 115 m long and a rotor sweep area of nearly 44,000 m².

Toby Edmonds, Executive Vice President for Offshore Wind at Northland Power, described the turbine installation as a “technical and logistical landmark” and “a testament to the rigorous planning and collaboration” that have powered the project. He added: “As the first offshore wind project in Poland to enter the installation phase, Baltic Power isn’t just leading the way—it’s setting new benchmarks for the region’s renewable future”.

Work continues on other project fronts, including installation of foundations and transition pieces, deployment of export and inter-array cables, and development of onshore infrastructure.
