Ecoener to build a 54 MW wind farm in Romania

Ecoener is accelerating its expansion in the European Union with the construction of a 54.4 MW wind farm in Miroslovesti, northeastern Romania, after securing a 15-year Contract for Difference (CfD) backed by the Romanian government. The Spanish company was the only national winner in the auction, securing 5% of the wind power capacity.

The project is part of the Romanian Ministry of Energy’s second tender within a €3 billion program aimed at accelerating the country’s energy transition. Supported by the European Union Modernisation Fund, the Romanian government seeks to deploy 5 GW of new renewable capacity through CfDs, which guarantee a fixed price over the contract period, providing financial stability and long-term revenue predictability.

The upcoming wind farm will feature eight state-of-the-art turbines, with an estimated total annual production of 166 GWh. The investment is expected to reach around €85 million. Construction is set to begin soon, with commercial operation expected by the end of 2027.

Luis de Valdivia, Ecoener’s CEO, said, “This project marks a strategic milestone for the company, as it will be our first asset in the European Union outside of Spain and positions us in a European country strongly committed to renewable energy production.” He added, “This new award strengthens our strategy to diversify into new markets beyond Latin America. In the EU, Ecoener currently has over 1 GW of projects under development in Greece, Poland, Italy, and Romania.”

With this move, Ecoener consolidates its presence in Europe and reinforces its commitment to renewable energy, targeting markets with stable regulatory frameworks and strong institutional support.
