Finland expands its wind power capacity with a 236 MW wind farm

The Finnish company Suomen Hyötytuule Oy has started the commercial operation of the Siikajoki wind farm with a capacity of 236 MW in Finland.

The project consists of 38 wind turbines that generate more than 700,000 MWh of electricity annually. The construction of the wind turbines was completed in the autumn, after which the commissioning continued with tests and a gradual connection to production.

According to the company, the Siikajoki wind project, located in the Pohjois-Pohjanmaa region, is the largest of its projects to date.

This new wind farm will increase the company's wind energy capacity to 654 MW and its annual energy production to over 1.9 TWh. Suomen Hyötytuule thus becomes the largest producer of wind energy in Finland.

Suomen Hyötytuule's share of the completed wind energy capacity last year was approximately 30%, and about 8% of the total wind energy capacity in Finland. In 2024, the total wind energy capacity of Finland was 8.358 GW.

The Project Director of Suomen Hyötytuule, Harri Suutari, stated that "overall, the Siikajoki project has gone according to plan. Due to the fire at Hitachi's transformer factory in Vaasa, the project will continue with the replacement of transformers until the summer. However, all turbines have been in production since the beginning of the year."
