Iberdrola acquires 40 MW wind farm in Italy
Iberdrola has agreed to acquire a 40 MW wind farm in the Basilicata region of Italy from Italian renewable energy group Belenergia and French sustainable infrastructure investor RGREEN INVEST.
The wind farm, which has been operational since 2018, benefits from a long-term incentive scheme designed to provide stable cash flows. The asset is located near Iberdrola’s Lucania complex, where the company is currently developing several renewable energy projects, including the 20 MW Montelungo PV solar plant now under construction.
The acquisition strengthens Iberdrola’s growing renewable energy presence in Italy, where the company’s installed renewable capacity now stands at around 450 MW.
The new wind asset complements Iberdrola’s existing Italian portfolio, which includes the Etruria complex — currently with 174 MW of capacity following the recent acquisition of a photovoltaic plant in Lazio — as well as the 243 MW Fenix solar project, the company’s largest renewable development in Italy to date.
According to Iberdrola, the transaction remains subject to customary closing conditions.
The deal is aligned with the group’s broader strategy of investing in renewable generation projects backed by long-term contracts in markets with stable regulatory frameworks and strong credit conditions.
Italy has become an increasingly important market for renewable energy investment as the country seeks to accelerate its energy transition, strengthen energy security and expand domestic clean power generation capacity.
