Polhem Infra and Prime Capital invest in 265 MW Lynx wind portfolio in Sweden

Polhem Infra has formed a strategic partnership with funds managed by Prime Capital AG to develop the 265 MW Lynx wind farm portfolio in Lycksele, Sweden. The collaboration marks a significant step in advancing Sweden's renewable energy capacity and supporting the transition to a greener, more sustainable future.

The portfolio includes three wind farms—Fjällberg, Vinliden, and Hornmyran—that are expected to begin operations by 2027. Polhem Infra and Prime Capital’s combined investment of approximately EUR 420 million will generate about 1 TWh of renewable energy annually, enough to power around 100,000 Swedish households. This initiative is designed to meet increasing energy demands while contributing to the industrial energy transition in northern Sweden.

In addition to the wind farms, the portfolio also includes the development of a regulated grid company. This will connect the wind farms to the regional grid via a new substation and a 70 km, 170 kV overhead line. Polhem Infra will acquire a 49% stake in the portfolio, working alongside Prime Capital to ensure the successful completion of this ambitious project.

The wind farms will be equipped with state-of-the-art turbines, specifically designed for the region's high wind speeds, ensuring a capacity factor exceeding 40%. The project will build upon earlier development work by Prime Capital and RES, with a focus on minimizing energy production costs through efficient construction and operation practices.

This joint investment underscores the pivotal role of Swedish wind power in the Nordic energy market, particularly as the region strives towards a net-zero greenhouse gas emission future. Both companies aim to contribute significantly to the energy transition and the growing demand for renewable energy in Sweden.

Anna Elmfeldt, CEO of Polhem Infra, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership: “We are thrilled to partner with Prime Capital on this portfolio, enabling much-needed large-scale renewable energy production for the Swedish energy transition and rising electricity demand. This project adds to Polhem Infra’s mission of investing in long-term assets that deliver both strong returns and critical societal infrastructure.”

Dr. Mathias Bimberg, Head of Infrastructure at Prime Capital, added, “We are proud of our longstanding role as one of the most active investors in renewable energy in the Nordics. This project marks the final construction initiative for our Prime Green Energy Infrastructure Fund I, and we look forward to continuing our work with Polhem Infra to develop high-quality renewable energy assets. Our focus will now shift towards supporting Nordic economies in their transition to hydrogen through our second fund.”

The Lynx wind farm project represents a key step in enhancing Sweden’s renewable energy infrastructure and will play a crucial role in meeting the country’s long-term sustainability goals.
