RWE begins construction of two wind farms in Italy

The 47 MW Serra Palino wind farm, located in the province of Foggia in the Apulia region, will consist of eight 5.9 MW turbines. Meanwhile, the 45 MW Venusia wind farm, situated in the province of Potenza in the Basilicata region, will feature eight 5.6 MW turbines. Both projects were successful in the latest Italian renewables auction, with commissioning planned for the end of 2026.

Once operational, the two wind farms will be able to generate enough green electricity to supply more than 83,000 Italian households.

Katja Wünschel, CEO of RWE Renewables Europe & Australia, stated that “Following the commissioning of the Mondonuovo wind farm in July, we have started construction of two new onshore wind farms in Italy. Once commissioned, these projects will be able to supply green electricity to more than 83,000 Italian households. Onshore wind power is a cornerstone of Italy's energy transition, and for good reason: it is clean, mature and affordable.”

RWE has a strong presence in the Italian renewables market, where it operates 17 onshore wind farms with a combined installed capacity of 598 MW—enough to supply more than 500,000 households with renewable power each year. The company follows an integrated approach encompassing development, construction, operation and marketing of renewable projects.

In addition to its new wind farms, RWE is also building its first commercial-scale Agri-PV plantsMorcone (9.8 MWac) and Acquafredda (9.3 MWac)—in the Campania region, further expanding its portfolio in Italy’s growing clean energy sector.
