The UK Government has granted development consent for the joint transmission assets serving the 480MW Morecambe Offshore Windfarm and the neighbouring 1.5GW Morgan Offshore Wind Project in the Irish Sea, the Planning Inspectorate announced on 14 September.

The consent was granted by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero following a six-month examination of the application submitted by Morgan Offshore Wind Limited and Morecambe Offshore Windfarm Limited.

The approved infrastructure includes offshore export cables, onshore landfall infrastructure, onshore export cables, substations, grid connection cables and circuit breaker compounds, as well as other related onshore infrastructure.

The application was submitted to the Planning Inspectorate on 21 October 2024 and accepted for examination on 18 November. The Examining Authority subsequently submitted its recommendations to the Secretary of State on 29 January 2026.

The Planning Inspectorate said the examination gave local communities, statutory consultees and other interested parties the opportunity to provide evidence and views on the project.

The decision, together with the Examining Authority’s recommendation and the evidence considered during the examination, has been published on the National Infrastructure Planning website.
