Wind power in Greece reaches 5.5 GW in first half of 2025

According to the annual wind energy statistics published by the Hellenic Scientific Association for Wind Energy (ELETAEN), Greece’s grid connected wind power capacity exceeded 5.5 GW, reaching 5,507 MW by the end of June 2025. This marks a 2.8 % increase compared to the end of 2024—double the growth rate of the previous year.

In the first half of 2025, 37 new wind turbines, totaling 152.2 MW, were added to the grid. These installations involved investments amounting to €180 million.

Moreover, over 1 GW of new wind farms were either under construction or had secured contracts by June 2025, with most expected to be connected within the next 18 months. An additional 300 MW was procured through tenders with compliance guarantees. As a result, Greece’s total wind capacity is projected to reach 6.5GW by the completion of these projects.

Regionally, Central Greece leads with 2,427 MW (44 % of the total), followed by the Peloponnese at 709 MW (13?%) and Eastern Macedonia–Thrace with 535 MW (9.7 %)

Regarding market players, the top five operators are TERNA Energy with 1,034 MW (18.8 %), MORE with 774 MW (14.1 %), Iberdrola Rokas with 409 MW (7.4 %), Principia with 368 MW (6.7 %), and PPC Renewables with 308 MW (5.6 %)

In terms of turbine manufacturers, Vestas supplied 45.1 % of Greece’s total installed wind capacity, followed by Enercon at 25.7 %, Siemens Gamesa at 16.4 %, Nordex at 7.6 %, and GE Renewable at 3.7 %.

During the first half of 2025, the 152.2 MW of newly installed turbines were supplied by Vestas (84.9 MW, 55.8 %), Enercon (37.3 MW, 24.5 %), and Nordex (30 MW, 19.7 %).
