1. Energyear Greece celebrates its first edition with more than 200 leaders of the renewable sector
Energyear continues its global tour and lands on 24 May in Athens to celebrate the first edition of Energyear Greece. The event will be held at the Wyndham Grand Athens.
Energyear Greece will bring together more than 200 experts from the renewable sector and will address topics related to the regulatory framework, market trends, access to connection, financing and construction of projects, innovation and technology, energy storage and green hydrogen.
2. How will the G7 countries seek to lead the energy transition?
G7 leaders are meeting this weekend in the Japanese city of Hiroshima to discuss some of the major international issues, such as the climate crisis and the war in Ukraine (with Ukrainian President Zelenski in attendance). One of the issues to be addressed, which is closely related to the two mentioned above, is the energy transition and the actions that these countries, the most industrialised in the world, must take to be at the forefront of global decarbonisation.
The G7 have made clear that they want to drive the global transition to a clean energy economy. As indicated by A3G, to make real progress towards this objective at the Leaders’ Summit from 19th – 21st May, G7 leaders need to show commitment to scaling up climate ambition at home by fully decarbonising their electricity sectors by 2035, electrifying their transportation sectors, reducing the energy intensity of their economies, and cutting back on their consumption and production of fossil fuels.
5. US to invest 51 million in electric vehicle charging network
The US government announced a 51 million Ride and Drive Electric funding opportunity through President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to accelerate the electrification of the nation’s transportation sector and spur private sector investments in clean transportation.
The administration also announced the launch of the National Charging Experience Consortium to advance rapid, on-the-ground solutions that ensure a convenient, reliable, equitable, and easy-to-use charging experience for all Americans with chargers that are made in America. The Joint Office of Energy and Transportation (Joint Office), will administer the Ride and Drive Electric program and has funded DOE’s Idaho National Laboratory to lead the National Charging Experience Consortium.
