1. Energyear Greece 2024: shaping a sustainable energy future

The second edition of Energyear Greece 2024, a networking event aimed at fostering dialogue and collaboration in the field of renewable energy in Greece and beyond, is here. Taking place against the backdrop of the Royal Olympic Hotel in Athens, this meeting is scheduled for May 9th.

The event will feature the prominent participation of key energy and political figures, including Aristotelis Aivaliotis, Minister of environment and energy, who serves as Secretary General for Energy & Mineral Resources. In addition, George Kremlis, Chair Bureau Espoo Convention, and Chair Greek Initiative UN level on climate & culture, as well as Maria Spyraki, Member of the European Parliament, will also join the debate.

2. Microsoft asegura 10,5 GW de energía limpia con Brookfield

Brookfield y Microsoft han anunciado una colaboración histórica que promete cambiar el panorama de la energía renovable a nivel mundial. Este acuerdo sin precedentes entre una empresa de gestión de activos líder en energía renovable y uno de los gigantes tecnológicos más importantes del mundo marca un hito significativo en la transición hacia fuentes de energía más limpias y sostenibles.

La colaboración entre Brookfield y Microsoft, representa el primer acuerdo en el marco global de su tipo. Su objetivo es acelerar la expansión de la capacidad de energía renovable para apoyar los ambiciosos objetivos de sostenibilidad de Microsoft. Según el acuerdo de cinco años, se planea desarrollar más de 10,5 gigavatios (GW) de nueva capacidad de energía renovable. Esta cifra es casi ocho veces mayor que cualquier otro acuerdo de compra de energía corporativa (PPA) jamás firmado.

3. White House unveils NEPA reform to fast-track clean energy projects

The White House Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ) has completed a rule aimed at overhauling, streamlining, and updating the federal environmental review procedure outlined in the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). 

The new rule will leverage over $1 billion from President Biden’s Inflation Reduction Act to hasten federal agency permitting. The goal is to expedite environmental reviews while upholding stringent environmental safeguards, fostering community involvement, and enhancing coordination with states, tribes, and local authorities.

CEQ’s Bipartisan Permitting Reform Implementation Rule fully implements new permitting efficiencies that the President secured in the Fiscal Responsibility Act of 2023, including setting clear deadlines for agencies to complete environmental reviews, requiring a lead agency and setting specific expectations for lead and cooperating agencies, and creating a unified and coordinated federal review process.

4. ANLA da luz verde a línea de transmisión para integrar energía del Parque Solar Puerta de Oro

La Autoridad Nacional de Licencias Ambientales (ANLA) ha dado luz verde a un proyecto crucial para el impulso de las energías renovables en Colombia. En una decisión definitiva, la ANLA ha otorgado la licencia ambiental a una línea de transmisión eléctrica de 230 kilovoltios que conectará el Parque Solar Puerta de Oro, ubicado en Cundinamarca, al Sistema Interconectado Nacional.

La implementación, marca un paso significativo en la estrategia del país para diversificar su matriz energética y reducir su dependencia de los combustibles fósiles. La línea de transmisión, que atravesará los municipios de Honda y Armero Guayabal en Tolima, así como Guaduas en Cundinamarca, permitirá la inyección de 300 MW de energía generada en el Parque Solar Puerta de Oro.

5. Goldwind, Envision, and Vestas lead global wind energy market in 2023

In 2023, China continued its dominance in the global wind energy sector, with significant implications for the market share of wind turbine original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). According to Wood Mackenzie's latest analysis, China accounted for an impressive 65% of global wind capacity, propelling four Chinese OEMs into the top five global rankings, a milestone in the industry's history.

With an impressive installation of 16.3 gigawatts (GW) of capacity, Goldwind maintained its position as the top wind turbine manufacturer for the second consecutive year. This achievement cements Goldwind's status as a powerhouse in the renewable energy landscape.

Envision, just behind Goldwind, achieved its best year so far with an installation of 14.1 GW, securing the second position globally. Meanwhile, Vestas, the only Western OEM in the top five, connected 11.5 GW, reinforcing its significant presence in the market.
