ENGIE Romania secures €90 million for new renewable energy developments
The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has disbursed a €90 million loan to ENGIE Romania, one of the country’s leading energy providers and distributors, to develop new renewable energy projects with a combined capacity of at least 250 MW by 2028.
The ENGIE Group has invested over €2 billion in Romania since the privatization of Distrigaz Sud in 2005, primarily in the gas distribution network and renewable energy production.
Grzegorz Zielinski, EBRD Director for Energy Europe, stated: "This investment reflects our continued commitment to the green transition in the region and lays the groundwork for a strong long-term relationship based on shared decarbonisation goals."
“The EBRD’s support reinforces our ambition to expand our renewable energy portfolio, a key element of our decarbonisation strategy, and to deliver green energy to our customers. We are proud to partner with the EBRD to build a greener and more resilient energy future for Romanian customers,” said Nicolas Richard, CEO of ENGIE Romania.
