France Renouvelables calls on French MPs to accelerate electrification

Following the recent legislative elections, France´s professional federations and associations (Enerplan, FEDENE, France Renouvelables, France gaz, the Syndicate of Renewable Energies, SFEN, and the French Electricity Union) communicated in an open letter the energy sector’s expectations for the implementation of the new multiannual energy programming and the national low-carbon strategy, which would allow various branches of the sector to organise themselves and improve purchasing power without compromising future investments.

As a first point, they highlighted the idea of implementing the new multi-annual energy programming and the national low-carbon strategy that would allow the sectors to organise themselves.

“We urge the publication of programmatic documents based on the consensus of the various consultations carried out in recent months, which will make it possible to maintain the competitiveness of the energy mix, ensure supply security for future generations, decarbonise energy uses, and make this transformation a driver of the country’s reindustrialisation. ‘Stop and go’ policies are detrimental to our long-term industries,” the statement emphasises.

In order to give state operators (ADEME, ANAH) the means to support the implementation of decarbonisation solutions, the multiannual strategy for financing the ecological transition announced for 2025 must also be published. In this way, local communities will be able to commit to this transition.

Secondlythey highlight the importance of improving purchasing power without compromising future investments. “The energy bill is a major concern for our fellow citizens and our businesses.” Additionally, they recommend:

  • To decarbonise energy use in order to protect consumers from volatile energy prices

  • Strengthen support mechanisms for modest and very modest households (energy vouchers, MaPrimeRénov’, support for clean mobility, etc.), for local communities (renovation of public buildings and decarbonisationof territories, etc.)

  • Implement measures that allow for better sharing of the value of the energy transition with territories, their inhabitants, and economic actors

  • Implement the reform of the European market framewor using the new opportunities for medium- to long-term contract development and ensuring solidarity between EU member countries to face crises

Thirdly, the open letter calls for strengthening the competitiveness of industrial sectors in France and Europe.

To remain competitive on the international stage and to support an industrial base in France and Europe, our industries need a favourable framework, both nationally and at the European level, as well as strong commitment from public authorities. The recent adoption of the European regulation known as the ‘Net-Zero Industry Actnow allows us to implement concrete policies in this area at the national levelWe propose continuing and deepening an ambitious industrial policy for the strategic equipment of the energy transition.

The energy system and industrial sectors are at a crucial juncture. “As representatives of the Nation, during this new mandate, you will need to commit France to a fair and attractive energy transition. We need predictability and stability to attract private investment within a constrained budget framework and to prepare the necessary skills for its implementation today and tomorrow,”concludes the open letter.
