One in four Danish homeowners have made energy improvements in the past year
Danes have become better at making energy improvements in their homes. The Danish Energy Agency's Energy Barometer shows that more than one in four Danish homeowners have made energy improvements to their homes in the past year. This is an increase compared to the previous year, when only one in five homeowners energy optimised their home. The survey shows that while many people used to consider a project, many more are now taking the step and realising the energy improvements.
“In the past year, when energy prices have been high, there has been a much greater focus on energy consumption. This also applies to the home, where the heating bill is suddenly no longer a constant. Many people have realised that they can actually do something active to reduce their home's energy consumption,” said Matilde Grøn Bjørneboe, the Danish Energy Agency's expert in energy saving advice and Danes' energy habits.
This is an effort that not only benefits them, explained Matilde Grøn Bjørneboe. Overall, the many renovations contribute to lower energy consumption, which benefits both the individual homeowner and society at large.
“It is very positive that so many homeowners have made energy improvements to their homes in the past year. Around 1/3 of Denmark's total energy consumption is in households, and just over half of this is used for heating. There can therefore be a lot to gain at a societal level if we can reduce energy consumption in our homes, and energy renovation is an obvious place to start,” said Grøn Bjørneboe.
In addition to providing a more comfortable indoor climate in the home and helping to protect the climate, energy improvements can also contribute to lower heating bills. For example, in a typical house with district heating, going from 100mm to 400mm of insulation in the attic can save almost DKK 3,000 every year.
According to the Danish Energy Agency's survey , as many as 33% of Danish homeowners are considering making energy improvements to their homes in the coming year.
