Orrön Energy secures 2.9 GW of grid-connected capacity in the UK
Orrön Energy has secured grid connections for six large-scale projects in the United Kingdom with an estimated combined capacity of 2.9 GW, following the conclusion of the UK grid reform process. The milestone strengthens the value and maturity of the company’s greenfield project portfolio, according to the company.
Of the six UK projects, three are solar energy developments with a combined estimated capacity of 1.8 GW, while the remaining three are data centre projects totaling an estimated 1.1 GW. The grid connections were secured under the UK’s grid reform framework. Orrön Energy expects to receive binding grid offers and further details on connection dates during the third quarter of 2026.
With both land and grid access secured, the UK projects are now at the ready-to-permit stage. The company said it will evaluate divestment options once the final grid connection agreements have been issued.
Alongside progress in the UK, Orrön Energy has also advanced its German platform. Three solar energy projects with a combined capacity of approximately 250 MW have obtained approvals from local municipalities, including one project that formed part of a recent portfolio sale.
The company has also progressed a substantial pipeline of large-scale battery projects in Germany, with land secured, and expects to receive grid confirmation early this year. This development follows recent sales processes in which 310 MW of projects were sold for a total consideration of EUR 18 million, subject to the achievement of key development milestones.
Orrön Energy said it continues to mature a growing pipeline of additional projects within its German platform and will assess further opportunities to crystallise value from its development assets.
Commenting on the announcement, Orrön Energy CEO Daniel Fitzgerald said: “I am very pleased with the strong progress and results coming out of our greenfield platforms in the UK and Germany. Securing the Gate 2 grid connections in the UK enables us to move ahead with some of the discussions that were temporarily paused due to the now concluded grid reform process. Meanwhile, the German platform has reached a level of maturity where project monetisation is underway. With an average sales price of around 55 thousand euros per MW during 2025, combined with the scale of our portfolio, I am confident that this will deliver significant value for us moving forward.”
