Rivington Energy acquires 139 MW solar and storage portfolio in the UK

Rivington Energy has acquired a 139 MW portfolio of solar and battery storage projects in the United Kingdom from GRIDSERVE, marking a significant step in its expansion within the British renewable energy market.

According to the company, the portfolio includes two ready-to-build (RTB) assets of 54 MW and 44 MW, as well as a pre-RTB project of 41 MW, located in Scunthorpe, Doncaster, and Hartlepool, respectively.

The first site to be developed will be a 54 MW solar park with 72 MWh of battery storage in Scunthorpe. Construction is set to begin in October 2025, with commissioning expected in September 2026. Once completed, the projects will supply electricity to the grid and to industrial consumers, providing a combined energy storage capacity of up to 160 MWh.

Andrew Newman, Chief Executive Officer of Rivington Energy, said that the company is committed to driving forward the energy transition:

“Our team is passionate about pioneering innovative energy solutions to support the journey towards net zero. We are pleased to have worked closely with our parent company, Federated Hermes Limited, to acquire these projects and are excited to begin their construction,” he stated.

The acquisition underlines Rivington Energy’s ambition to expand its renewable energy footprint in the UK, contributing to the country’s decarbonization goals through the deployment of large-scale solar and battery storage infrastructure.
