Romania allocates 3 GW of renewables in its second CfD auction

Romania has awarded nearly 3 GW of renewable capacity in its second Contracts for Difference (CfD) auction, bringing the total from both rounds to over 4 GW, according to the EBRD. More than 5.5 GW of solar and wind projects were submitted in this latest round, with solar prices falling as low as €35/MWh.

The result exceeds the country's Recovery and Resilience Plan target of 3.5 GW.

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) stated that the auctions — financed through the EU’s Modernisation Fund — provide long-term revenue stability for developers and have strengthened Romania’s renewable energy market framework.

Victoria Zinchuk, EBRD Director for Romania, noted that “this highlights the Ministry of Energy’s commitment to competitive auctions and well-structured support mechanisms, and lays the foundation for future progress, including the development of support schemes for storage.”
