US clean energy investment hits $500 billion in record time

A groundbreaking report from the American Clean Power Association (ACP) reveals historic investments since August 2022, showcasing a transformative period for the industry. Total capital investment announced amounts to an impressive $500 billion, with over $60 billion dedicated specifically to manufacturing. Additionally, $75 billion has been invested in projects that have come online in the last two years.

This surge in investment is driving a notable American manufacturing renaissance. The sector has announced plans for 161 new manufacturing facilities, of which 42 are already online and operating. Another 119 facilities are in development, highlighting the sector’s substantial expansion.

The clean energy boom is also creating significant employment opportunities. Over 100,000 new manufacturing jobs have been announced, with 20,000 jobs already generated by operational facilities and an additional 80,000 expected from facilities in development.

The clean energy sector continues to expand its generating capacity. The total capacity announced is over 300 gigawatts (GW), enough to power more than 47 million American homes. Currently, 55 GW of capacity has been built, generating enough energy to power the equivalent of over 10 million homes.

“These historic investments are providing a powerful engine for job creation across the nation,” said ACP Chief Executive Officer Jason Grumet. “As demand for electricity continues to rise, clean power is answering the call and propelling a new era for American manufacturing. While recent progress is nothing short of remarkable, our ability to deploy new capacity with adequate speed and scale requires dramatic efficiency improvements in federal, state, and local decision making. ACP is encouraged by recent bipartisan progress to confront barriers to modernizing America’s energy economy. If we combine innovations in technology and governing, it is possible to achieve an energy system that is reliable, affordable, secure, and clean.”
