ENGIE and Meta sign new 600 MW PPA in Texas

ENGIE North America has announced the signing of additional Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) with Meta, expanding the commercial relationship between the two companies to more than 1.3 GW across four projects in Texas, according to ENGIE.

The new agreements include ENGIE’s 600 MW Swenson Ranch Solar project in Stonewall County, southeast of Lubbock, Texas. This project will be the largest single asset in ENGIE’s North American portfolio of over 11 GW of operating and under-construction solar, wind, and battery storage assets. Swenson Ranch is expected to enter operation in 2027, and Meta will purchase 100% of its output to power its data centers in the United States.

Dave Carroll, CEO and Chief Renewables Officer at ENGIE North America, emphasized the importance of solar in meeting customer needs: “We are excited to continue the expansion of our relationship with Meta. Our objective is to bring reliable, cost-competitive power to the grid as rapidly as possible, and projects like Swenson demonstrate the importance of solar to meet the timely needs of our customers.”

The $900 million investment in Swenson Ranch is projected to employ over 350 skilled workers during construction. Once operational, the project is expected to generate more than $158 million in tax revenues for Stonewall County and the local hospital district over its lifetime.

Urvi Parekh, Head of Global Energy at Meta, highlighted the company’s commitment to renewable energy: “We are thrilled to bring an additional 600 MW of solar energy to the grid, and expand our partnership with ENGIE to 1.3 GW. Our collaboration with ENGIE enables us to continue matching 100% of our electricity use with clean and renewable energy to support our data center operations.”

This announcement marks a significant step in ENGIE and Meta’s ongoing collaboration to advance renewable energy deployment in the U.S., supporting the acceleration of digital infrastructure while promoting clean energy adoption, according to ENGIE.
