Five new solar and agrovoltaic plants in Italy to be operational by 2027
N-Sun Energy, the investment platform created by Alantra Solar and Solarig, has secured a combined €405 million in financing to accelerate the development of new solar capacity in Italy, according to Alantra Solar.
The largest component of the package is a €355 million green financing agreement signed with Intesa Sanpaolo to support the development and construction of five solar and agrivoltaic plants totaling 275 MWp. The projects are located across Lazio (Ischia di Castro), Puglia (Lecce and Minervino Murge), and Sicily (Catania I & II), with all sites expected to enter commercial operation by the end of 2027.
Structured as a holdco project finance, the facility includes long-term loans, a VAT line, a debt service reserve, and guarantees linked to power purchase agreements and decommissioning. Intesa Sanpaolo acted as Mandated Lead Arranger, Underwriter, Bookrunner, Global Coordinator, Agent Bank, and Green Loan Coordinator, underscoring its continued backing of investments aligned with Green Loan Principles.
In parallel, Bankinter, with a guarantee from CESCE, has provided an additional €50 million corporate financing facility. This will support the platform’s capital structure and help finalize N-Sun Energy’s investment commitments.
According to Alantra Solar, the new financing reinforces N-Sun Energy’s role in advancing the energy transition in Southern Europe, particularly in Italy, where utility-scale solar development continues to expand.
“This financing highlights the strength of the partnership between Alantra and Solarig in advancing one of the most ambitious solar energy platforms in Europe,” said Javier Mellado, Managing Partner of Alantra Solar. “It marks another milestone towards delivering N-Sun Energy’s 1.8 GW portfolio and confirms the strong commitment of leading investors to our strategy.”
The operation follows the €213 million financing secured last year for a first phase of 306 MWp across Spain and Italy. To date, N-Sun Energy has already acquired 597 MWp of its planned portfolio, backed by key investors Reichmuth Infrastructure and Amundi Energy Transition.
