Germany reaches 3 million photovoltaic installations
According to information from the industry association BSW Solar, the number of solar panel systems in Germany reached three million, with a total installed capacity of more than 70 gigawatts (GW).
Thanks to this milestone, the country can cover more than 10% of its electricity demand with solar photovoltaic panels. The sun is increasingly powering the German country as on Saturday (27 May), solar PV production also reached a record 40,919 megawatts (MW), according to data from the European Energy Exchange AG, revealed by Bloomberg.
"Under the impact of the energy crisis and as a result of improved framework conditions, the demand for solar technology has risen sharply," BSW executive director Carsten Körnig said. "Solar energy is booming, especially among private households."
In addition, the number of solar panels commissioned on private homes in the firts quarter more than doubled compared to the same period last year, according to the association.
Körnig is confident that, if investment conditions continue to improve, the demand for photovoltaics will also increase among commercial investors in the future. The solar industry has long since accepted this important societal challenge, says Körnig. And politicians are also setting the course for growth: at the beginning of May, Federal Economics Minister Robert Habeck announced the removal of new market, grid and land access barriers at a joint PV summit with the solar industry.
