Google signs 12-year PPA for 435 MW solar project with energyRe

Renewable energy company energyRe has announced a major 12-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Google for a 435-megawatt (MWdc) solar project. The solar facility, to be developed, owned, and operated by energyRe, will provide electricity and Renewable Energy (RECs) to Google, contributing to the tech giant's clean energy goals. The solar project will supply clean power for Google's operations in the Central United States, powering the equivalent of more than 56,000 homes.

This agreement supports Google’s ambitious target of running on 24/7 carbon-free energy across all its operations by 2030. The deal was made possible through LEAP™ (LevelTen Energy's Accelerated Process), a platform co-developed by Google and LevelTen Energy to streamline clean energy transactions.

“As we work towards operating every Google campus on clean electricity every hour of every day by 2030, partnerships like this accelerate new clean power generation,” said Amanda Peterson Corio, Google’s Global Head of Data Center Energy. “Through our scalable procurement approach, we’ve been able to collaborate quickly with energyRe and support our 24/7 progress in the SPP grid system.”

In addition, Miguel Prado, CEO of energyRe, emphasized the significance of the partnership, stating, “Google is a global leader in renewable energy and continues to set a high bar across the technology industry. energyRe’s track record of delivering clean energy solutions for our customers makes us a trusted partner for companies working to reduce their carbon footprints.”

Nationally, energyRe has a portfolio of onshore utility-scale projects, including 1,520 MWdc of contracted solar assets and 398 megawatt-hours (MWh) of battery storage capacity.
