Grenergy signs 20-year PPA in US for 400 GWh/year hybrid solar and storage project
Spanish renewable energy company Grenergy has signed a long-term hybrid power purchase agreement (PPA) in the United States with Georgia Power for the sale of electricity and renewable attributes over a 20-year period.
The agreement, linked to the company’s Beaver Creek project in Georgia, covers 100% of the plant’s output, estimated at approximately 400 GWh per year, according to the company.
Hybrid solar and storage project in Georgia
The Beaver Creek project, located in Baldwin County, Georgia, will combine 229 MW of solar photovoltaic capacity with 183 MWh of battery energy storage (BESS).
Under the agreement, Georgia Power will also manage battery market operations as part of the arrangement.
The project is expected to begin commercial operations in the third quarter of 2028, while the PPA will officially enter into force in May 2029, running for a total of 20 years.
Expansion strategy in the US market
Grenergy has been active in the US market since 2022, with its headquarters in Birmingham, Alabama. The company currently reports a pipeline that includes 1.2 GW of solar capacity, 1.7 GWh of hybrid projects, and 2.3 GWh of standalone storage projects.
It already operates two standalone storage facilities in Texas: Stadium (25 MWh) and La Feria (25 MWh).
Focus on AI-driven energy demand
The company said the US market is experiencing unprecedented electricity demand growth, driven largely by the expansion of artificial intelligence and data centers. This trend is increasing the need for reliable generation and storage capacity.
Grenergy aims to replicate in the US its PV + BESS hybrid model, already deployed in Chile and expanding across Europe.
“We see very clear opportunities to develop highly profitable projects, especially in the southeastern US,” said CEO David Ruiz de Andrés, highlighting strong demand growth driven by AI.
Company profile
Founded in 2007, Grenergy is a listed Spanish renewable energy producer focused on the development, construction, and operation of solar photovoltaic plants and energy storage systems.
The company has a market capitalization of more than €3.5 billion and employs over 600 people. Its global portfolio includes 12 GW of solar capacity and 72 GWh of storage capacity in different stages of development.
Grenergy operates across Europe, North America, and Latin America, positioning storage as a core pillar of its strategy to deliver continuous renewable energy supply.
