The photovoltaic (PV) installation on the roof of SIGNAL IDUNA PARK, home of Borussia Dortmund (BVB), has officially been awarded the Rekord-Institut für Deutschland (RID) World Record as the most powerful stadium rooftop solar system worldwide. Realized in partnership with RWE, the project represents a historic milestone at the intersection of sports, technology, and sustainability.

A Record-Breaking Collaboration for a Sustainable Future

Equipped with over 11,000 JA SOLAR modules, the installation produces more than 4 GWh of renewable electricity annually, covering a significant portion of the stadium’s energy needs. This translates into a reduction of roughly 1,700 tons of CO? emissions per year, equivalent to powering the stadium’s floodlights for approximately 1,000 football matches.

Beyond its scale, the project embodies a shared vision between JA SOLAR and Borussia Dortmund: to unite performance, innovation, and sustainability in one of Europe’s most iconic football venues.

The SIGNAL IDUNA PARK project demonstrates JA SOLAR’s capacity to deliver complex, large-scale PV installations with precision and reliability. It also aligns with the company’s broader sustainability commitments, including participation in the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), the Solar Stewardship Initiative (SSI), and its EcoVadis Silver Medal recognition.
