LONGi to present its global initiatives in the sustainable development of clean energy at Intersolar Europe

LONGi is ready for a new participation at Intersolar Europe, the largest specialized fair of the solar industry. The company, located at booth A2.170, will be present from 14-16 June showcasing the latest innovations it brings to the photovoltaic industry and three of its highlights will be featured.

The first of these will focus on their latest release: the new Hi-MO 7. The module is equipped with n-type HPDC cell technology and maintains the standard size of M10-72c, measuring 2278×1134 mm. The power of mass-produced modules is up to 580W, corresponding to a conversion efficiency of 22.5%.

According to the company, Hi-MO 7 excels in power generation and reliability and is based on a high bifaciality and an excellent power temperature coefficient. These features make it ideal for use in environments with limited land area, high albedo, and elevated temperatures.

A new exploration of low-carbon transformation

The second big news that LONGi will present during Intersolar Europe is related to its zero-carbon plant, a solution to meet its commitment to carbon emission reduction by actively exploring new low-carbon transformation pathways.

At Phase I of the COP15 hosted in Kunming, Yunnan Province in October 2021, LONGi announced its plan to build the production base in Yunnan’s Baoshan into the first zero-carbon plant of LONGi in 2023. At present, LONGi is proceeding with all work of the plant based on the four-step plan.

For LONGi, the Baoshan base is one of the most important bases in upstream of the PV industry chain. To realize zero-carbon carbon emissions within its operational horizon, the company has set three clear targets. First, 100% green electricity is used for the plant’s production and operation. As Yunnan abounds in green electricity resources, LONGi locally utilizes high-proportioned renewable electricity to lower Scope 2 emissions. In 2022, green electricity used by the Baoshan base reached 99.09%.

Second, LONGi is increasing investment in technological improvement in natural gas recovery to significantly reduce Scope 1 emissions. As the first natural gas recovery project implemented in the company, it greatly increases material utilization while reducing carbon emissions. It is estimated that the carbon emission by the Baoshan base will drop from around 32,000 tons per year to 3,200 tons, down by over 90%.

Third, LONGi is building green plants, deploying digital energy management systems, and continuously promoting energy conservation and consumption reduction as planned to enhance the energy utilization efficiency. In 2021, the product unit consumption of the Baoshan base fell by over 8% on a year-on-year basis. As of now, LONGi has completed greenhouse gas accounting for its Baoshan base within Scope 1 and Scope 2 of its operations and has obtained a carbon verification certificate issued by a third-party organization. In addition, the Baoshan base has integrated green and low-carbon empowerment education for employees through the establishment of a “zero-carbon plant”.

“Utilizing solar energy, building a green world”

Finally, LONGi will present to the hundreds of attendees its Sustainability Report, which underlines the company's intention to systematically adhere to the philosophy of sustainable development and attaches great importance to ESG governance.

“We have strengthened the ESG engagement of our Board of Directors and are dedicated to improving our ESG governance capabilities and performance. Meanwhile, we engage in extensive discussions with various stakeholders to advance the integration of business decision-making processes, sustainable development principles, and stakeholder demands, thus promoting coordinated and synergized progress in our company, industry, and society”, the company points out in its report.

The report also shows LONGi used 4.2 billion kWh of renewable energy in 2022, accounting for 47.18% of its total energy consumption, which was higher than 40.19% of total green energy use in 2021 and 66.64% in 2015. By using green power, LONGi has reduced 2.43 million tons of greenhouse gas emissions throughout 2022. The company has also improved energy management and saved a total of 607 million kWh of electricity and 9.59 million tons of water.

ESG commitment

To better meet LONGi's sustainable development objectives and strengthen ESG governance capabilities, the company has revamped our ESG governance structure.

That is why LONGi has developed a three-tier ESG governance structure covering governance, management and execution, with the Board of Directors as the highest decision-making body. It has also expanded the Strategy Committee to the Strategy and Sustainable Development Committee, which oversees and reviews the company's ESG practices.

“In the era of carbon neutrality, LONGi has seized the trend of the times and is striding forward by leveraging clean energy. Given the massive market scale, we are ready to collaborate with more partners and promote a just global energy transition and sustainable development based on common principles and values to ensure a livable and sustainable future for all”, said Zhong Baoshen, Chairman of LONGi Group.

Finally, more than 300 experts from the LONGi team will be present at the solar industry's leading trade fair to present to attendees the new reasons why the company will seek to remain one of the most competitive in the PV industry.
