The Olympic Aquatic Center, under the project management of the Greater Paris Metropolis, began filling with water on December 20, making it an example for its cutting-edge approach to sustainability and energy efficiency.
Last summer, more than 4,680 m² of photovoltaic panels were installed on the roof of the building, making it one of the largest urban solar farms in France. This sports facility, built permanently specifically for the Paris 2024 Games, not only aims to generate clean energy, but its concave shape reduces energy consumption for heating by 20%, demonstrating its innovative and practical approach.
Located in the heart of Seine-Saint-Denis, the sports complex received the BiodiverCity label and the exceptional score for its sports equipment in compliance with NF HQE standards. Unprecedented in its design, 90% of the energy it consumes is of renewable or recovered origin, marking a milestone in the commitment to eco-efficiency.
In terms of environmental performance, "made in France" was highlighted in the interior design with permanent grandstand seats made from recycled plastic materials for the first time in a major sports venue. It became a new recognized SOLIDEO innovation fund.
In addition to its positive environmental impact, the Aquatic Center has implemented a pioneering and efficient system for reusing gray water, in particular for cleaning beaches and outdoor spaces. This novel initiative in France obtained the concession from the Regional Health Authority (ARS) to make this process possible from a regulatory point of view, revolutionizing water resource management in the region. This initiative sets a precedent for future aquatic projects, promoting more economical and sustainable water management.
"The Olympic Aquatic Centre is a majestic structure, an exceptional architectural symbol, which in itself sums up all the ambitions and know-how of the Metropolis in terms of urban development, innovation, environmental exemplarity, sporting excellence and universal accessibility. With this launch, a decisive and determinant technical stage, the Metropole is proving that it is ahead of schedule in terms of completion of the project", declared Patrick OLLIER, President of the Greater Paris Metropole and Mayor of Rueil-Malmaison.
Scheduled to inaugurate in the spring of 2024, the Olympic Aquatic Center represents a milestone in sustainable development, fusing elite sport with environmental innovation. This complex will not only be a sports epicenter, but a beacon of inspiration for a more sustainable future in the Seine-Saint-Denis region.
