The renewable energy developer Qair and the French group Carrefour have signed a solar power purchase agreement (PPA) for the production of a 52 MWp solar project that will be built in 2026 in the Latium region of Italy.
This agreement marks the beginning of a partnership in which Qair will support Carrefour in its decarbonization goals, with an initial phase that will supply part of Carrefour Italy's energy consumption.
Carrefour aims to reduce emissions by 50% and obtain 100% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2030. This commitment is part of a broader strategy aimed at achieving carbon neutrality across the group by 2040.
Carrefour's sustainability strategy focuses on engaging its supply chain. The company has set a clear mandate: by 2026, 100% of its 100 largest suppliers must adopt a climate trajectory aligned with 1.5°C, or risk being excluded from the register.
“This contract will allow Carrefour Italy to access around 75 GWh of renewable energy per year, equivalent to supplying 30 of its hypermarkets, in line with our status as a 'Benefit Corporation' and our specific goal of reducing our environmental impact,” says Jean Francois Dohogne, CFO of Carrefour Italy.
“We are delighted that our impactful local solar project will contribute to the decarbonization efforts of a group like Carrefour. The trust that Carrefour has placed in us reaffirms Qair's strong strategy in Italy. I thank the teams for their firm commitment and look forward to seeing the first panels installed. Together, we are making significant strides in the energy transition,” says Emmanuel Maqueron, CEO of Qair Italy.
