Toyota to receive clean energy as Deriva Energy’s Wildflower Solar goes live in Mississippi

The Wildflower Solar plant in DeSoto County, Mississippi, is now fully operational, marking a major milestone in the region's push for clean energy. Developed by Deriva Energy, this 100 MW solar facility is the company’s first investment in the state and is now generating renewable power for Toyota Motor North America.

John Clapp, CEO of Deriva Energy, expressed excitement about the project's completion: “We are pleased to launch Wildflower Solar into full commercial operation. Expanding our renewable energy footprint in the Southeast will help support Mississippi’s industrial base with sustainable, zero-emission energy.”

In addition to its environmental impact, the Wildflower Solar project has created significant economic opportunities. During its construction, the plant employed nearly 300 workers, and it will continue to contribute to the local economy through long-term jobs and taxes while providing clean energy to Toyota’s operations.

Becky Martin, Sustainability Manager at Toyota Motor North America, highlighted the importance of the project in achieving the company's environmental goals. “With Wildflower Solar operational, we are excited to continue working toward our goal of carbon neutrality by 2035. Mississippi is a critical state for Toyota, where we manufacture the Corolla, and this move to renewable energy is a crucial step in reducing our carbon footprint.”
