US solar industry launches new online platform to strengthen recycling and sustainability

The Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) has launched SolarRecycle.org, a new platform designed to strengthen the long-term sustainability of solar and energy storage and connect industry leaders with vetted recycling partners.

The website’s debut aligns with SEIA’s broader efforts to promote proper end-of-life management of solar equipment across industry business models. The announcement comes as SEIA hosts its inaugural Sustainability Conference in Savannah, Georgia, a premier event bringing together industry leaders, legislators, researchers, and academics to explore strategies for embracing a circular economy.

“With solar and storage accounting for the majority of new power added to America’s electric grid, strategic end-of-life management of solar equipment is critical for our industry’s long-term success,” said Abigail Ross Hopper, SEIA president and CEO. “Through SolarRecycle.org, industry stakeholders, policymakers, media, and the public can access resources that promote sustainable business opportunities and the adoption of best practices for retired solar equipment.”

SolarRecycle.org offers a range of resources developed by SEIA experts, including:

  • An interactive map of collection sites and SEIA-vetted PV Recycling Partners

  • Industry standards and best practices for recycling

  • State and local legislation updates related to end-of-life solar management

  • Reports, factsheets, and resources on the safety and environmental health of solar equipment

Originally created in 2021 as a free resource by a coalition of clean energy experts, SEIA acquired SolarRecycle.org in 2025 and completed a full content refresh to better serve solar and storage companies, partners, policymakers, the public, and the media.

“The team at SolarRecycle.org is proud of the resource we built, and we are thrilled to hand it over to SEIA to ensure that all information remains accurate and up to date,” said Kate Collardson, founder of SolarRecycle.org.
