Vesper Energy inaugurates Hornet Solar facility with over 1.3 million panels in Texas
Vesper Energy has officially announced the start of commercial operations for Hornet Solar, its flagship energy project, now fully operational in Swisher County, Texas. The launch marks a major milestone not only for the company, but also for Texas as a national leader in solar energy production.
Covering over six square miles and featuring more than 1.36 million solar panels, Hornet Solar ranks among the largest single-phase solar installations in the United States. The project is expected to deliver 600 MWac of clean, domestic energy and generate more than $100 million in new tax revenue for the region.
“Hornet Solar is a testament to how large-scale energy projects can deliver reliable, domestic power to American homes and businesses,” said Juan Suarez, Co-Chief Executive Officer at Vesper Energy. “This project isn’t just about solar panels—it’s about making energy more affordable while strengthening our nation’s energy security.”
The ribbon-cutting ceremony held on April 10 included guided tours of the site, remarks from Vesper leadership, and networking opportunities. Local officials, industry representatives, landowners, and community members came together to celebrate the milestone.
Construction on Hornet Solar began in the fall of 2023. In January 2024, Vesper secured $590 million in financing to help bring the project to completion. Notable milestones included the installation of the one-millionth solar panel in December 2024 and the final module in January 2025.
“The scale of Hornet Solar speaks for itself—1.36 million panels, over six square miles, and 600 MW of capacity,” said Zach Wald, Vice President of EPC at Vesper. “But the real impact is what this project delivers to Swisher County: more than $100 million in new tax revenue and meaningful investments in schools, infrastructure, and healthcare.”
Hornet Solar has already delivered substantial economic benefits to the local community, creating over 300 construction jobs and contributing to essential public services. The project will provide $61 million to the Tulia Independent School District, $25 million to Swisher County, and $12 million to the Swisher Memorial Hospital District.
