Calabria welcomes a major 120 MW BESS project

GreenGo has received approval for its 120 MW/480 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) project in San Sostene, Calabria.

According to the company, this standalone storage system is one of the largest currently authorized in Italy.

The company has now raised its total authorized storage capacity to 249.5 MW. According to the announcement, this positions GreenGo as one of the most competitive players in Italy ahead of the auctions under the Energy Storage Capacity Acquisition Mechanism (MACSE).

Fabio Amico, CTO and partner at GreenGo, stated: “With San Sostene, we are consolidating GreenGo’s presence in the storage sector, bringing the total of authorized BESS projects to around 250 MWp and strengthening our capacity to participate in the first round of MACSE.”

Overall, GreenGo has a portfolio of 1.73 GW, comprising 75 projects across 12 Italian regions. Of these, 693 MW are already authorized or ready for construction, and 40 MW are currently under construction.
