Grenergy secures five stand-alone storage projects in Poland totaling 534 MW

Grenergy has won capacity contracts for five stand-alone storage projects in Poland, totaling 534 MW and 2.1 GWh of energy storage, according to the company’s press release. The projects—named Fred, George, Lucius, Hagrid, and Harry—were awarded in the latest auction organized by Polskie Sieci Elektroenergetyczne (PSE), the Polish electricity system operator.

The storage systems are designed to operate as reserve capacity during periods when the minimum system capacity is not guaranteed, strengthening the resilience of Poland’s power grid. Grenergy secured over 11% of the total storage capacity offered in the auction.

Operations for these projects are scheduled to begin in January 2030. Under the terms of the contracts, the company will receive a fixed, inflation-indexed capacity payment of 465.02 PLN/kW per year for 17 years, representing a minimum guaranteed revenue of over €132 million. These capacity revenues are part of a broader revenue stack for the projects, which also includes energy trading and participation in other regulated markets, such as ancillary services, potentially structured through tolling agreements.

In addition, Grenergy has recently received a government grant of 34 million PLN (approximately €8 million) for four smaller stand-alone projects totaling 136 MWh, which are expected to enter operation before 2028. These grants, funded through the EU Modernization Fund and announced in 2024, aim to promote energy storage development in Poland. Overall, 128 projects have benefited from the program, which has a total funding of €1 billion.

The Polish projects expand Grenergy’s Greenbox platform in Europe, a stand-alone storage solution that currently has a total pipeline of 31 GWh across key markets. According to the company, this includes 5 GWh in Poland, 7 GWh in Romania, 3 GWh in Germany, 5.8 GWh in Italy, 6 GWh in Spain, and 4 GWh in the United Kingdom.

In Spain, the flagship Greenbox project in Oviedo will be the first major stand-alone battery installation under this platform, with 600 MWh of capacity and expected operation starting in early 2027. When combined with its hybrid projects, Grenergy’s total storage pipeline reaches 75 GWh.
