Hungary inaugurates its largest-ever battery energy storage system
MET Group has inaugurated Hungary’s largest stand-alone battery energy storage system at the Dunamenti power plant in Százhalombatta.
The 40 MW/80 MWh system, operating on a two-hour cycle, is the latest in a series of MET investments across Europe and aims to support the integration of renewable energy into the Hungarian grid.
The new facility is equipped by Huawei Technologies, with Forest-Vill Ltd serving as the main contractor.
The combined storage capacity at the Százhalombatta site can meet Budapest’s decorative and public lighting needs for four hours, according to MET.
Péter Horváth, CEO of the Dunamenti power plant, stated that “the deployment of battery energy storage systems is a key element in the energy transition path, as they enable increased penetration of new renewable sources into the power grid.”
