Sungrow partners with Nofar Energy on innovative BESS project in Germany

Sungrow, a renowned global provider of PV inverters and energy storage systems, has revealed the initiation of preliminary agreements for supply and service contracts concerning a fresh BESS venture with Nofar Energy. This project is slated for development in Stendal, Saxony-Anhalt, Germany, and will incorporate Sungrow's newest BESS model, the PowerTitan2.0. This cutting-edge technology made its European debut during the "Power Up Your Future - Sungrow PowerTitan2.0 Experience Day" held on March 7th, 2024, in Madrid, Spain.

Debut of PowerTitan2.0 in Germany

Sungrow's groundbreaking system stands as a cornerstone of this thrilling endeavor, poised to deliver up to 230MWh of energy storage capacity. The PowerTitan2.0, a liquid-cooled ESS, will make its debut in Germany, seamlessly integrating a 2.5MW Power Conversion System (PCS) and a 5MWh battery within a single 20-ft container. This pioneering technology not only boosts efficiency and safety but also significantly reduces both capital expenditure (CAPEX) and operational expenditure (OPEX) costs.

80% of renewable energy by 2030

The pace of ESS project development in Europe is rapid. S&P Global Commodity Insights predicts installations exceeding 140 GW between 2024 and 2030. Germany is steadfast in its commitment to renewable energy transition, aiming to source 80% of its energy production from renewable sources by 2030. ESS projects are poised to play a pivotal role in advancing this objective, facilitating more effective utilization of renewables and ensuring grid stability.

Importance of the partnership

Mr. Tzvi Ben David, Sungrow's Country Manager, reflected on the project as a significant milestone for Sungrow, showcasing their commitment to delivering state-of-the-art energy solutions. He emphasized the enduring partnership with Nofar Energy, highlighting Sungrow's dedication to advancing clean and dependable energy storage solutions. Furthermore, he noted the cooperative synergy with colleagues in Europe, which not only bolstered their support network but also provided robust solutions for international projects, including the one in Stendal, Germany.

Nofar Energy's Chairman, Ofer Yannay, announced the collaboration with Sungrow, praising their team's efforts. He highlighted the partnership's significance in expanding their supplier network, particularly in BESS. Mr. Yannay underscored the substantial purchase deal as a testament to their sustained growth, citing successful solar projects totaling over 1 GW across six countries. With a strong presence in the electricity storage sector, Nofar Energy's operational and under-construction capacities total 1.1 GWh, with a portfolio of 7.5 GWh. Looking ahead, he affirmed their commitment to leveraging BESS expertise for continued growth and improved returns.

PowerTitan ESS archived 10.5 GWh in 2023

In 2023, the PowerTitan ESS series achieved remarkable global shipments, surpassing 10.5 GWh. The introduction of PowerTitan2.0 serves not to supplant PowerTitan1.0 but to provide an additional solution, underscoring Sungrow's commitment to innovation across multiple technologies. This expands the range and flexibility of our energy storage systems, ensuring they effectively cater to diverse requirements across various scenarios.
