Google expands clean energy sourcing in Finland with new wind PPA
Google has signed a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with the shareholders of Finnish wind power producer Suomen Hyötytuuli Oy for electricity generated by the Alajoki-Peuralinna wind farm in Finland.
The agreement, signed in 2024, is aimed at supporting the addition of new clean electricity generation in Finland. The Alajoki-Peuralinna wind farm has been in operation since April 2025 and is intended to contribute to the security of domestic electricity supply.
The PPA is managed by Hyötytuuli Services Oy.
The agreement comes as Google announced an investment plan for Finland covering data centres, energy infrastructure and partnerships in Hamina, Muhos, Vaala and Kajaani.
250 GWh of estimated annual generation
Located in the municipalities of Perho and Kyyjärvi, the Alajoki-Peuralinna wind farm comprises 14 wind turbines and has an estimated annual electricity production of around 250 GWh.
For Suomen Hyötytuuli, long-term PPAs are an important mechanism for enabling investments in renewable energy.
“As one of Finland’s largest wind power operators, we consider PPAs important for enabling renewable energy investments,” said Jaakko Kleemola, CEO of Suomen Hyötytuuli Oy. He added that the company is interested in signing new long-term PPAs in the future to support Finland’s transition to clean energy together with its customers.
Google’s renewable energy capacity in Finland reaches 629 MW
According to Aris Karcianis, Google’s Head of Clean Energy and Power EMEA, the agreement with Suomen Hyötytuuli brings Google’s total renewable energy capacity procured in Finland to 629 MW.
“Google has operated in Finland for 15 years and worked closely with local energy producers to bring new clean energy onto the grid,” Karcianis said.
He added that deploying new clean energy capacity will remain a key part of Google’s long-term strategy as its operations in Finland expand, with the aim of ensuring access to affordable and clean energy for Finnish operators and Google’s customers.
Cooperation on grid flexibility
Beyond the PPA, Suomen Hyötytuuli and Google will continue working together to develop ancillary services that can provide greater flexibility in the operation of the wind farm while supporting the stability and reliability of the electricity grid.
The companies did not provide further details on the specific ancillary services or the additional flexibility measures under development.
