Nordex to power Latvia’s biggest wind project with 147 MW capacity
The Nordex Group has announced the award of a contract to supply and install 21 N163/6.X wind turbines for the Pienava wind farm, which, with a total capacity of 147 megawatts (MW), becomes the largest wind power project in Latvia to date.
The project was developed by Eolus, one of the leading renewable energy solution providers in Scandinavia, and has been acquired by Latvenergo, Latvia’s state-owned energy company.
Located in the municipality of Tukums, southwest of Riga, the wind farm will feature Delta4000 series turbines mounted on 169-meter tubular steel towers, specifically designed for cold climate operation. Delivery and installation of the turbines will begin in the summer of 2026, with commissioning scheduled for March 2027.
Once operational, Nordex will be responsible for the maintenance of the turbines under a 15-year service contract, ensuring long-term performance and reliability.
This new contract strengthens Nordex's position in the Latvian market, which it entered for the first time in 2024 with an initial order of 109 MW. Today, the company already has 300 MW under development in the Baltic country, reaffirming its commitment to the energy transition in Eastern Europe.
