Offshore wind and remote operations feature in IMCA’s new strategy for 2030

The International Marine Contractors Association (IMCA) has launched a four-year strategy that includes offshore wind, decarbonisation and remote operations among its priorities for the offshore construction industry. Presented at the IMCA Global Summit in Antwerp, Belgium, the IMCA 2030 strategy sets out how the association will respond to changes in energy markets, emerging technologies and regulatory requirements.

The strategy is built around three pillars: technical excellence and standardisation; a safe, skilled and diverse workforce; and sustainability and operational efficiency. Within its maritime division, IMCA plans to strengthen its work on autonomy and remote operations, decarbonisation and offshore wind, while continuing to invest in its eCMID vessel inspection system.

IMCA also aims to support the industry's transition through practical guidance, collaboration and knowledge-sharing to help members address sustainability challenges and improve operational efficiency. Its wider programme includes initiatives to develop offshore skills, promote career opportunities and strengthen professional competency across the global workforce.

The association will also expand its engagement with the European Union, national governments and regulators, building on its longstanding work with the International Maritime Organization. Its stated focus is on coordinated, practical regulation that supports safety, operational efficiency, decarbonisation and industry growth while avoiding unnecessary complexity and costs.

IMCA represents more than 850 members across 66 countries and works across offshore construction activities, including diving, dynamic positioning, remotely operated vehicles, marine surveying and lifting operations. The association said IMCA 2030 was developed through extensive member consultation and is intended to ensure it continues to provide technical leadership and practical value as the industry evolves.
