Romania gives the green light to one of the country’s largest wind farms, with 246 MW.

The Romanian Energy Regulatory Authority (ANRE) has issued the authorization for one of the country’s largest wind farms: Ialomi?a Nord, with a total capacity of over 246 MW.

The project is owned by the Portuguese company Greenvolt, a major investor in the sector, through Solar Traders, and will benefit from the Contracts for Difference (CfD) scheme, successfully launched last year by the Ministry of Energy.

According to Romania’s Minister of Energy, Sebastian Burduja, this initiative could become a catalyst for economic development in a county with significant needs.

"Affordable energy attracts investment and boosts Romania’s competitiveness. In a world where major companies choose where to invest based on energy prices and access."

The project is among the first to qualify under the CfD scheme, which means it has secured financing and will move forward with a 15-year guaranteed electricity sale price. This translates into jobs during construction and operation, local tax revenue, increased economic activity, and access to affordable energy.

Romania currently has around 3,100 MW of installed wind capacity. This project will add another 246 MW. But more importantly, it sends a strong signal: Romania is becoming an attractive market for major international energy players.
