RWE launches one of its largest onshore wind farms in Italy

RWE has commissioned San Severo, with a capacity of 54 MW, one of its largest onshore wind farms in Italy, after a year of construction.

According to the company, the wind farm is made up of 12 turbines, each with a capacity of 4.5 MW, and is located in the province of Foggia, in San Severo. It is expected to supply electricity to up to 55,000 Italian households.

RWE offered Italian citizens the opportunity to actively participate in the energy transition and benefit economically from it directly. Subscribers to this community financing had the chance to invest between €250 and €5,000 with a 24-month term and a guaranteed return of up to 9% gross annually. The total investment from the San Severo community was €200,000.

Katja Wünschel, CEO of RWE Renewables Europe & Australia, stated, “The commissioning of San Severo marks a successful year with a series of new renewable energy projects in our key Italian market. With Mondonuovo, we have started construction on another large wind farm; Bosco is our first solar park under construction in Italy, and we have just decided to invest in Morcone and Acquafredda, our first advanced agrophotovoltaic commercial plants in the world, which will be built next spring. A big thank you to the team and all the partners and companies involved. We look forward to the next milestones in our journey to help Italy achieve net-zero emissions by 2040.”
