The EIB allocates €17.5 million to expand the electric vehicle charging network in Greece and Cyprus
The European Investment Bank (EIB) has announced long-term venture debt financing of up to €17.5 million for Joltie SA, a Greek operator of electric vehicle (EV) charging points, to accelerate the rollout of public charging infrastructure in Greece and Cyprus.
According to the EIB, the operation is backed by the InvestEU programme and will support the installation of around 2,200 new charging points by 2029. By expanding access to reliable charging infrastructure, the project will help decarbonize road transport, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and facilitate the transition to sustainable mobility in cohesion regions.
The project is fully aligned with InvestEU’s “Future Mobility” policy objective under the Green Transition, as well as with the EIB’s Climate Bank Roadmap and Transport Lending Policy. The investment will address major market gaps, accelerate EV adoption, and drive innovation in sustainable transport. It also supports the EIB’s core priorities in Climate Action, Cohesion, and the development of a Capital Markets Union, while aligning with the TechEU initiative, which responds to the needs of a fast-growing company like Joltie.
EIB Vice-President Yannis Tsakiris stated that “the EIB is committed to supporting the green transition and sustainable mobility in Europe. Our collaboration with Joltie will boost EV charging infrastructure in Greece and Cyprus, making e-mobility more accessible and affordable. Backed by InvestEU, this financing will crowd in private investment and strengthen local capacity to deliver on our climate action goals.”
Joltie’s CEO, George Pechlivanoglou, added that “E-mobility is not the future; it is already a reality. The EIB’s investment is an institutional recognition of our fully integrated model and accelerates the development of a high-availability charging network. Our goal is to provide more choice and real convenience for drivers in Greece and Cyprus, with technology designed and manufactured here, contributing to a cleaner everyday life.”
