Uniper will purchase 40,000 metric tons of sustainable aviation fuel produced from renewable energy (eSAF) annually from Arcadia eFuels’ Project Endor in Vordingborg, Denmark, under a legally binding agreement.

According to Uniper and Arcadia eFuels, the agreement is one of the largest announced eSAF offtake deals to date and is intended to support the development of new European production capacity. Deliveries are planned to start in the early 2030s, subject to agreed conditions and the facility commencing commercial operations.

The fuel will be produced at Arcadia eFuels’ Project Endor using renewable electricity, green hydrogen and captured CO2. The companies state that the eSAF can deliver up to 98% lower lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions compared with conventional jet fuel and is designed to comply with EU sustainable aviation fuel requirements, including the ReFuelEU Aviation Regulation.

The contracted volume is equivalent to the fuel required for approximately 1,000 Boeing 787-9 flights between Düsseldorf and Abu Dhabi each year, according to the companies.

For Arcadia eFuels, the agreement provides long-term offtake certainty for its Project Endor and is expected to support the construction and commissioning of the facility. For Uniper, the deal secures access to RFNBO-compliant eSAF as the company seeks to expand its portfolio of low-carbon energy products.

The agreement was signed in Düsseldorf in the presence of Mona Neubaur, Minister for Economic Affairs, Industry, Climate Action and Energy of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia and Deputy Minister-President, and Anette Galskjøt, Consul General of the Kingdom of Denmark in Hamburg.
