Dunkirk Offshore Wind Farm in France secures cable supply and installation from Hellenic Cables and Asso.subsea
Hellenic Cables, the cable segment of Cenergy Holdings, has secured a contract to supply and install export cables for the Dunkirk offshore wind farm, with an expected capacity of between 500MW and 600MW in France.
The company, in consortium with Asso.subsea, received a turnkey contract from Réseau de Transport d'Électricité (RTE) for the project.
The Dunkirk Offshore Wind Farm will feature two 225 kV HVAC export cable links, which will allow the smooth transfer of clean energy to the French electrical grid.
According to Hellenic Cables, it will design, manufacture, and supply 32 km of subsea cables for the dual subsea cable link, as well as 38 km of underground cables for the dual three-phase underground cable link. It will supply accessories for subsea and underground cables, carry out splicing, testing, and termination on-site, and handle the commissioning of the cable links.
The installation partner, Asso.subsea, will be responsible for the transportation, laying, and protection of the subsea cable links.
The subsea cables will be manufactured at Hellenic Cables’ state-of-the-art facilities in Corinth, Greece, while the land cables will be produced at Hellenic Cables’ land cable manufacturing facility in Thiva, Greece, which is currently undergoing a capacity expansion program.
For the installation of the subsea cables, Asso.subsea will use its expanded fleet capabilities, implementing specialized self-designed equipment to ensure precision, efficiency, and the highest quality standards at all times. The project involves complex cable laying and burial operations in shallow waters, an area where Asso.subsea has demonstrated extensive experience over the years.
Hellenic Cables is committed to supporting RTE and the region's renewable energy initiatives, as demonstrated by its participation in the RTE 2023 event in Dunkirk focused on local content.
Alexandros Tziotakis, Operations Director of Asso.subsea, stated, "This collaboration on a flagship project reinforces our shared commitment to advancing renewable energy infrastructure. Asso.subsea’s expertise in subsea cable installation and protection ensures the seamless integration of these critical components into the wind farm grid. This project marks our return to France, following the successful completion of key projects such as Gruissan, Fécamp, Saint-Brieuc, and PGL. It highlights not only our technical capabilities but also our dedication to Europe’s energy transition and sustainability goals. We look forward to executing this project with the highest standards of quality, safety, and reliability."
Meanwhile, Kostas Savvakis, CEO of Hellenic Cables, stated, "The project represents a significant step in supporting France's renewable energy goals, and for Hellenic Cables, it is an honor to continue our collaboration with RTE. Our role in the Dunkirk offshore wind farm highlights Hellenic Cables' commitment to providing reliable and sustainable energy solutions, while fostering strong collaboration with industry leaders such as RTE and Asso.subsea."
