In a speech at the Hamburg Climate Summit, the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, stressed the importance of Europe's continued progress in energy infrastructure to ensure the efficiency of the supergrids that stretch across the continent, forming the backbone of the economy of the future and thus continuing to drive energy prices down.

Von der Leyen emphasized that "energy prices must continue to fall. To achieve this, we must make the right investment decisions today. In Brussels we gave the green light to 166 new energy infrastructure projects. This ranges from onshore and offshore power grids to hydrogen electrolyzers and the transport and storage of CO2.  This also applies to so-called supergrids. Extensive and secure grids that extend across our continent. They are controlled with the help of artificial intelligence and direct cheap energy to where it is needed most. This is how we create the energy backbone of tomorrow's economy."

4. Italy eliminates 10 euro/kW tax for three years for new renewable installations above 20 kWEs

The decision of the Environmental and Productive Activities Commissions of the Italian Chamber has approved the elimination of the tax of 10 euros per kW, provided for in Article 4 of the Legislative Decree on Energy, for new renewable installations of more than 20 kW. This tax, which the owners of these installations had to pay for three years, was originally designed to feed an environmental and territorial compensation and rebalancing fund.

The measure was criticized since its proposal, as it was perceived as contradictory to the objectives of promoting renewable energies. Proponents of the elimination argued that taxing renewable energies to incentivize their adoption in the territories was conceptually absurd and could hinder the development of new projects, putting at risk the achievement of the objectives of the PNIEC (National Integrated Energy and Climate Plan).

5. UK to boost more than £185 million for industrial decarbonization through renewables

Energy Efficiency and Green Finance Minister Lord Callanan announced that a new phase of the £185 million Industrial Energy Transformation Fund will open, which will help businesses transform their operations to run on cleaner and safer energy, supporting measures such as replacing inefficient equipment, installing electric ovens and switching to hydrogen. The funding ensures that companies are supported in the transition to net-zero energy in a sustainable and cost-effective manner, securing green industrial jobs for the future.

Sectors such as manufacturing and recycling and, for the first time, controlled environment horticulture, industrial laundries and textile rental facilities - will be among those eligible to apply for these new grants, as part of the Government's wider efforts to achieve the UK's net zero production targets.
