1. Energyear USA: Leading renewable energy conference is coming to Houston

More and cleaner energy in the United States is the goal of Joe Biden's administration and its Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 (IRA), an initiative that aims to accelerate the deployment of renewable energy in the country. In this scenario, hundreds of experts in the renewable energy sector have found new opportunities. That is why the Energyear tour, the industry's top-rated networking congress, will arrive this year with the first edition in the country. Energyear USA will bring together more than 300 people on July 20 at the InterContinental Houston Medical Center in Houston, Texas.

From leading renewable energy companies, IPPs, EPCs and developer representatives to investors, financiers, asset managers, technologists, law firms, financial advisors, consultancies and government institutions, the event will bring together key stakeholders responsible for shaping the market framework.

2. Ireland publishes its National Hydrogen Strategy: opens the door to export green H2 made from offshore wind

Ireland has unveiled its National Hydrogen Strategy, which sets out the strategic vision for the role hydrogen will play in the country's energy system, considering its long-term role as a key component of a carbon-free economy, and the short-term actions that need to be taken over the next few years to enable the development of the country's hydrogen sector.

According to the document, a target of 2 GW of offshore wind for renewable hydrogen production, to be in development by 2030, will help provide greater certainty for investors and create the volumes needed to expand the sector. "Ireland has one of the best offshore wind resources in the world and has the potential to develop a decarbonized industrial opportunity in close proximity to this resource, and to become a net exporter of renewable hydrogen in the long term," the paper describes.

3. España impulsa el desarrollo de biogás con más de 75 millones para ayudas a proyectos

El Ministerio para la Transición Ecológica y el Reto Demográfico (MITECO) resolvió de forma definitiva la primera convocatoria de ayudas a proyectos de instalaciones singulares de biogás. Las 81 propuestas con mejor valoración recibirán incentivos por valor de 76,5 millones de euros del Plan de Recuperación, Transformación y Resiliencia (PRTR), financiado con fondos Next Generation de la UE, que corresponden a una inversión proyectada de 475,5 millones de euros y una potencia total a instalar de 188,3 MW.

Como informaron desde el Gobierno, el programa de ayudas, gestionado por el Instituto para la Diversificación y Ahorro de la Energía (IDAE), dependiente del MITECO, seleccionó iniciativas de producción de biogás y su aprovechamiento, bien para uso térmico o eléctrico, en cogeneración de alta eficiencia o para depuración hasta obtención de biometano de uso energético. La mayoría de los proyectos beneficiarios de estas subvenciones a fondo perdido combinan varias de estas tipologías y un buen número de ellos incorporan además el tratamiento y conversión del digerido final como fertilizante.

4. EU invests €3.6 billion of emissions trading revenues in 41 innovative clean tech projects

The Commission is awarding over €3.6 billion to 41 large-scale clean tech projects, to be financed through the EU Innovation Fund. With a focus on the REPowerEU Plan and phasing out Europe's imports of Russian fossil fuels, these projects cover a wide range of industries, such as cement, steel, advanced biofuels, sustainable aviation fuels, wind and solar energy, and renewable hydrogen and its derivatives. The funding will contribute to the greening of significant sectors of the European economy, in particular those that are difficult to decarbonise.

According to the European Commission, the selected projects are located in 15 EU Member States: Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Czechia, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain and Sweden; as well as Norway. The supported projects will all enter into operation before 2030, and have the potential to avoid 221 million tonnes of CO2 emissions in their first 10 years of operation.

5. Chile introduce nuevas estrategias para impulsar el almacenamiento energético en el país

El ministro de Energía de Chile, Diego Pardow, informó de que el Ministerio ingresó al Congreso el proyecto de Ley de Transición Energética, que incluye un conjunto de medidas que promueven acciones urgentes para incentivar inversiones requeridas para el proceso de descarbonización de nuestro país, entre ellas el fomento para el desarrollo de proyectos de almacenamiento energético. Además, mediante la emisión de la Resolución Exenta N°284, la Comisión Nacional de Energía (CNE) incorporó cambios que incentivan la participación de proyectos de almacenamiento y energías renovables no variables.

Como parte de las medidas de la Agenda para un Segundo Tiempo de la Transición Energética, el Ministerio de Energía ingresó al Congreso el proyecto de Ley de Transición Energética, que incluye un conjunto de medidas que promueven acciones urgentes para incentivar inversiones requeridas para el proceso de descarbonización del país. Para ello, considera modificaciones al mecanismo de asignación de ingresos tarifarios y mejoras al sistema de transmisión eléctrica, además del fomento del almacenamiento energético ya mencionado.
